Fun with water

We recently had sod laid down in our front yard and are trying desperately to keep it alive. The sprinklers don't quite reach this little patch up front, so we have to water it manually every now and then... at least until John figures out how to adjust the sprinklers so they water the entire lawn.

Anyway. Johnny has a fascination with the hose and the water that comes out of it, so when we brought the hose out on Saturday, he HAD to play with it. We were planning on swimming in the pool later anyway, so we just let him go wild. The results were adorable.

Soaked.
Giving Grandma a nice, big, wet hug.

Baby #2 update

I'm still pregnant. Just wanted to throw that out there.

I'm one week away from my "official" due date, and I'm hoping the baby will come this week. Or at least I'm hoping I don't have to do the whole overdue waiting thing. If I go too far past my due date, then I risk out of the birth center and have to go to the hospital. I've been induced before. It blows.

John thinks the baby will come on the 13th, thus adding another 13th birthday to our list (John, Johnny and I were all born on the 13th day of different months). My dad and brother are hoping the baby will come tomorrow, June 8th, since that's their birthday... Personally, either day is fine with me, as long as it's before I'm 41 weeks.

Send labor vibes my way people!

C'est la vie

I guess many people would say that I am lucky since Johnny doesn't have separation anxiety and has never exhibited separation anxiety... with me. With Daddy, it's a COMPLETELY different story. If Johnny wakes up in the morning before John has left for work, he goes directly to the master bedroom to give Daddy a big hug (bypassing me, of course) and love on him. Once John leaves for work, it's meltdown time. If John has already left for work when Johnny gets up, we have to go through the whole house looking for Daddy. Once he finally believes that Daddy is at work, it's meltdown time. When John gets home from work, Johnny's little face lights up and he gets so excited. If Daddy goes anywhere, like the bathroom for instance, it's meltdown time. This same behavior is exhibited with both Grandma and (ESPECIALLY) Grandpa Durso. "Ma" and "Pa" are two of his favorite people for sure.

On the other hand, when Johnny and I are separated, it's no drama. For instance, when my mother-in-law comes over to watch Johnny during my prenatal appointment, he gets so excited to see "Ma" and jumps into her arms. Then he turns and looks at me and says "Bye!" Yes, Mommy is leaving, which he is pretty psyched about. Or if I come upstairs with his bottle while he and Daddy are getting ready for bed, Johnny will wave at me, say "bye!" and physically push me from the room.

I know that there are other people who get broken-hearted every time they have to leave their little one with a caretaker because of how their child reacts to their parent leaving... I have never had that heart-wrenching reaction to my child's cries for me as I walk out the door because there are no cries for me. I guess that means I'm lucky, but it also means I feel unloved a lot of the time. I know that if given the choice between me or Daddy, he will pick Daddy every time (which actually happened today), and sometimes that's hard for me to take.

Yes, I know, he's one-and-a-half years old and he's not trying to hurt my feelings, but, man, it's hard not to feel unappreciated when you have molded your entire life around your child's needs and wants and he puts you in last place. I guess that's what happens when you're a parent, right? You are the most important person in their lives, but they see you as the least important. I'll try not to expect that to change for the next 25 years or so.

38 weeks and still incubating

Nothing particularly exciting going on at 38 weeks. Lots of Braxton-Hicks contractions, but that's it. I've actually been gaining weight (yay!) thanks to cookies from Sprouts and a switch from skim to 2% milk... I know I'm supposed to be gaining weight by eating healthier foods than cookies, but hey, I've been eating healthy for the last 38 weeks and look where it's gotten me. :)

The most obnoxious thing going on (besides the usual body pain associated with growing a baby) is restless legs. Holy crap, does it suck! I'm tired all day and so ready to lie down for a (mostly) restful night's sleep, but when I get all comfortable in bed with all sorts of pillows tucked in all sorts of places... it strikes. The very unnecessary need to move my legs. At first I'll try to ignore it, but the restless feeling only gets worse and worse until I finally get up and start walking around the house or the cul-de-sac or do some yoga flows or lunges or squats or go up and down the stairs multiple times. Does the exercise help? Not really. It just makes me tired enough to finally ignore my legs and pass out. It's a relatively new development, so I haven't brought it up with my midwife, but I will definitely be asking for some help on Monday. For now, I just do some exercises and get John to rub my legs before I go to bed. But if anyone has any experience with this and wants to share what helped them, I'm all ears!

I'm still tired, but managing to make it through the week due to help from family and friends coming over for a couple of hours each day to watch Johnny so I can lie down. Being able to lie down while they are here and then during Johnny's nap time makes a big difference in how I feel. I can actually make it through the day and then make dinner... usually. So thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who has volunteered to hang out with my maniac of a toddler while I give my body a rest.

Johnny has been a big help by taking a nap every day (::crosses fingers::) and entertaining himself for about fifteen minutes or so at a time. HOWEVER, he is, as John says, a Nazi about letting me (or anyone) lie down while I'm in his presence. If I lie down on the sofa in the play room, he comes over from wherever he is and pulls on my head while saying "nonononononono." Ah, well, at least he's cute.

Goofball

Some of the things this kid does makes me laugh so hard! Like his discovery of how to look like a complete weirdo using a large plastic spoon.
I don't have any more words for this post. I think the picture says it all, don't you?
