Bookworm

Johnny loves books. And when I say love, I really mean TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY OBSESSED. He has some favorites and he'll make you read them over and over and over and over again. Now, this is incredibly cute behavior to the grandparents and aunts and uncles, but I can tell you that being his mom and reading Moo Baa LaLaLa thirty-seven times a day is a little ... irksome. Do I absolutely love seeing his little face light up when I say "Oops!" while reading "Blue Hat Green Hat"? Definitely! Do I get a nervous tick after reading it eleven times straight? Oh yeah. But hey, it's a small price to pay to have a kid who will choose a Dr. Seuss book over television 10 times out of 10, right?

Holding hands

One of my favorite things about Johnny being able to walk now is holding his hand and walking together. In fact, we go out to get the mail together every day after his nap just so we can hold hands on the way to the mailbox.

3 Ways to Tell That My Kid is Sick

Number 1: He sleeps. A lot.

Number 2: He's cuddly.

Number 3: He sits still for more than 1 minute.

Johnny got a little stomach bug last week and while the night was long for both of us, I really enjoyed the extra cuddle time. He didn't want to be by himself and slept best on my chest... which to be honest, was a bit of challenge considering my enlarged abdomen. We slept a good portion of the night in the glider in the nursery, an action that my back and tailbone are still making me pay for. He's pretty much back to normal now, just eating an awful lot of food since he hardly ate anything when he was sick. Hopefully we won't have to deal with anything like that for awhile!

Such a big boy

Starting just a couple of days ago, walking has become Johnny's primary form of transportation. He can even push himself up when he falls over! He's such a big boy all of a sudden. :)

I know, it's a little long, but he was so cute I couldn't cut any of it.

Genetics

I put together this comparison a few months ago and just found it while perusing my pictures for something blog-worthy.
Hmmm.... I'm thinking he inherited my eye color.

Zoo trip with Grandma

About a month ago, my mom and I took Johnny to the zoo for a little afternoon excursion. He's finally starting to notice the animals, but he's not especially enthralled with them, he'd rather crawl/walk around the place and eat the rocks. Or the wood chips. Or random bits of trash.

Yeah, he's pretty cute, isn't he?

What's a blender like you doing in a place like this?

My life has been taken over by this fire engine red appliance and I could not be happier. And double score because Johnny digs it, too. Every day this blender is used in the morning and in the evening; yes, TWICE in one day. Because it is awesome.

After our walk, Johnny and I blend up a protein shake which we share (he gets 75% milk and 25% protein shake in his sippy cup). Then in the afternoon I whip up a spinach and fruit smoothie so that we can both get some raw greens in our diet easily. Believe me, the spinach and fruit smoothies are more delicious than they sound. The Vitamix came with a cookbook that has recipes for such things and every single one I have tried has been a success.
Smoothie drinking is serious business.
I must credit my husband for getting a screaming deal on the Vitamix and then surprising me with it. He just came home from work one day with this appliance from heaven under his arm and told me about how long he had been searching for just the right deal on one. My husband = the awesome.
